Moving With Pets: 7 Ways to Help Your Pet Adjust to a New Home

When you are moving with pets, a little planning can make the transition easier. The goal is to keep your pet safe, maintain as much routine as possible, and give them time to adjust to their new surroundings.

1. Keep Your Pet’s Routine as Consistent as Possible

During the weeks leading up to the move, try to keep feeding, walks, playtime, and bedtime as close to normal as your schedule allows. Familiar routines can give pets something predictable while the rest of the home changes around them.

2. Create a Quiet Space on Moving Day

Open doors, unfamiliar people, moving equipment, and constant activity can create opportunities for a pet to become frightened or slip outside. Consider keeping your pet in a quiet, secure room away from the busiest part of the move, or arrange for them to stay with a trusted caregiver.
